iCat Roles

The positions for iCats are defined according to one of the following five roles: Fellow, Mentor, Consultant, Trainer and Implementer. Please note: Fellow positions are posted once a year for all philanthropic organizations and social enterprises and have the same application deadline. All other positions are posted continuously throughout the year and have individual application deadlines.

Fellows join the senior management or a project team for a period of 11 months. At the beginning of each fellowship, the fellow and the organization define a result-oriented work plan for the duration of the assignment.

• On-site / full-time / 11 months
• Examples: CFO, Communication Expert, Change Management Facilitator, Financial Analyst, Business Developer

Mentors support the senior management team over several months with advice through regular phone conferences or on-site meetings. The mentor guides an important ongoing process on a medium- to long-term basis.

• On- or off-site / part-time / 1-12 months
• Examples: Support the implementation of a business plan, help the management team restructure the organization, advise in strategy development

Consultants provide consulting services during the preparation and implementation of a specific project.

• On-site / full-time / 1-9 months
• Examples: Develop business plan, create measurement & reporting system, develop adequate IT system, provide legal advice

Trainer improve the specific competencies of the staff through training.

• On-site / full- or part-time / 1 day to 3 months
• Examples: Training in time management, leadership, project management, sales, IT, finance, HR

Implementers provide hands-on support of at least a few days, and mainly on-site. The assignments can vary between creative, technical or organizational work.

• On-site / full- or part-time / 1 week to 6 months
• Examples: Create or translate marketing material; implement IT system; organize fundraising event
